5 Reasons to Exercise in the Morning

Let’s face it, there are two types of people in the morning: those who rise out of bed with a look on their face that says, “today’s going to be great; I can’t wait!”

And then there are those who hiss at the sun and retreat back into the solitude of their comforter.

For most, mornings are the roughest part of the day, so why would anyone decide to do their workout in the earliest hours?

1) Kickstart Your Metabolism

The morning provides several advantages for your body, one being the effect it has on your metabolism. This, of course, depends on the intensity of the workouts and the food consumed before the workout (lean proteins, green tea, etc).

For men, working out in the morning can increase your muscle growth due to the excess of testosterone stored in your body overnight.

2) Beat the Crowds

There’s no doubt that fitness buffs and health-conscious people will be hitting the gym in the morning, but the crowds are nowhere near as large as they are at night.

So, while everyone else rushes to a packed gym after work, you can head to your peaceful sanctuary at home. If you feel motivated in the presence of other people working out, sign up for a morning aerobics or cycling class instead.

3) Increased Energy and Well-Being

Stretching your body out and getting the blood running is the best way to start your day, especially if it’s a workday. Working out in the morning gives you more energy for the rest of the day, and your body will be able to better handle the constant walking, lifting, or sitting your job requires.

You’ll also feel better mentally since working out releases endorphins that improve your mood, and it’s a lot easier to deal with your responsibilities when you’re happy.

4) Cooler Workouts

Certain parts of the country view the onset of summer as a glorious event where the sun finally comes out of hiding and provides much-needed warmth, inspiring people to get outside to pursue fitness and recreational activities.

Others experience the opposite, summer is just the climax to a year full of days in the high 80s. This is why if you live somewhere where it’s hot most of the year, working out in the morning is the best way to stay fit and avoid the hottest times of the day (between 1:00 - 4:00 pm)

On the flipside, if you live somewhere cold, working out in the morning gets your blood flowing and prevents the cold from having as much of an effect on your joints and muscles.

5) Get it Out of the Way

The most obvious reason to work out in the morning is that you don’t have to work out at the end of your day. After several hours at work and another in traffic, you probably just want to get home and plant yourself in front of the TV until you pass out.

You can do that guilt-free knowing you already put in time for your body in the morning. Working out in the morning also frees up time for you too finish any take-home work, projects, and spend time with family and friends.

Exercising in the morning is a fantastic way to start your day with a productive activity. Don’t let yourself skip out on your workout – get up early and get moving.
